The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has been out for less than a year. But that hasn't stopped it from amassing an impressive trophy haul. The first US-market nameplate built on Hyundai's new Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) has earned recognition from a wide range of outlets, from being named AutoGuide's Green Vehicle of the Year to sweeping its nominations at the World Car Awards, including the coveted overall World Car of the Year.
This week, the IONIQ 5 added its latest accolade to the list when Car and Driver (C/D) named it "EV of the Year." The publication ranked the electric crossover above 19 other top-rated EVs, including stiff competition from the likes of the Audi e-tron GT, Rivian R1T, Tesla Model S Plaid, and Ford Mustang Mach-e GT.
"From front to back, the IONIQ 5 is a practical, fun, and fast electric car priced for the real world."
C/D editors praised the IONIQ 5 for its daring style, cool tech, and impressive value, noting that its pricing "is the only thing about it that's resolutely normal."
The Hyundai IONIQ is available in several powertrain options, boasting up to 320 horsepower/446 lb-ft in its AWD configuration and 303 miles of range in its RWD, 77.4kWh layout. It's one of the few currently available models capable of 350-kW ultra-fast charging, which can add 68 miles of range in just five minutes at a compatible station and refill from 10 to 80 percent in as little as 18 minutes.
