A Santa Cruz for Santa Cruz—four of them, actually. Last week, Hyundai celebrated National Public Works Week and National Beach Safety Week in Santa Cruz, CA, the namesake of the automaker's compact pickup. Trevor Lai, senior manager of product planning for Hyundai Motor North America, attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the donation of four Hyundai Santa Cruz models to the City of Santa Cruz's Marine Safety Division. It was the largest vehicle donation to a city by Hyundai Motor America to date.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz is distinct from the rest of the automaker's lineup, blending the comfort, versatility, and easy drivability of a crossover with the open utility of a compact pickup. Because it doesn't quite fit into a single segment, Hyundai has marketed the Santa Cruz as a Sport Adventure Vehicle.

"These vehicles are going to be game-changing in terms of bolstering our current fleet of vehicles that are available not only for patrol, but for the emergency response for the water rescues we have all year round," said Rob Oatey, Santa Cruz Fire Chief. "Especially the way they are designed in terms of being lightweight and more compact. It provides better visibility. Our dense beaches can be extremely hazardous to navigate in vehicles, and the better visibility all around is going to enhance safety."
