Hyundai vehicles have enjoyed unprecedented success over the past few years, earning praise for their refined and practical accommodations, advanced features, and standout styling. The automaker has plenty of accolades to show for its efforts, among the most recent coming from U.S. News and World Report, which designated the Hyundai Tucson PHEV as the Best Plug-in Hybrid for 2023.
U.S. News reviewed data for more than 100 hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric cars, naming winners across nine categories. The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid came out on top in its segment thanks to its impressive quality, fast charging rate, strong fuel economy and range, and accessible price tag.
"The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid is a top choice among PHEVs, offering a responsive powertrain and 33 miles electric driving range," noted U.S. News Best Cars managing editor Jim Sharifi. "Great interior quality, ample passenger and cargo space, and one of the most competitive prices in the segment are just a few of the reasons why the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid was a shoo-in for our Best Plug-in Hybrid award."
The 2023 Tucson PHEV is powered by a battery-assisted 1.6-liter turbo-four with 261 horsepower and 33 miles of EPA-estimated electric-only range. It's easy to live with, too, needing only ~6 hours with a standard 120-volt household-style outlet. Or you can use Level 2 equipment (240-volt; 7kw) to complete a charge in just ~2 hours.
